Ten years ago the Children’s Art Foundation was founded in Mexico to bring literacy through art to children in disadvantaged areas of San Miguel.

Would you like to consider making your wonderful walking/hiking/cycling part of the October campaign by the Scotia Virtual Marathon below, and raise funds for Amistad Canada (team Children’s Art Foundation) ?

I plan to walk and pedal 100km by October 31.

My goal is to raise $2000 for Amistad Canada team Children’s Art Foundation. I appreciate your support.

 Thank You!

The Children’s Art Foundation streams film The Chorus at the Bellas Artes

The Children’s Art Foundation streams film The Chorus at the Bellas Artes on Sunday, March 11th

Come and join us on Sunday at 3 pm in the Auditorium of Bellas Artes for a Wine & Cheese reception and Silent Art Auction benefiting the Literacy Through Art program for underprivileged children of San Miguel.

At 5 pm we proudly feature The Chorus (The Choristes, 2004), an amazing award winning film shown at the Berlin film festival in 2004.  It emphasizes the  importance of art and nurturing in children. The Chorus, directed by Christophe Barratier,   is a drama inspired by the 1947 film A Cage of Nightingales (La Cage aux rossignols) by Jean Drévill. It narrates Pierre Morhange (Jacques Perrin) childhood memories, when he attended a dreary boarding school. During this period, little Pierre has the fortune to encounter with Clément Mathieu (Gérard Jugnot), the new music teacher, who inspires Pierre’s life by teaching him the hidden musical talents that he has while attempting to change the reactionary policies of the school ran by the strict headmaster Rachin (Francois Berléand). Listed as top 10 Best movies ever released.

Enjoy an evening filled with marvelous artwork, fun, and a beautiful film with music from Bruno Coulais (Coraline, The Crimson Rivers).

Tickets: 300p/400p or donation.

(Available at Juan’s Café  or  Bellas Artes at the door)

Annual "Little Picasso" Art program at Rosewood (3rd week)

Under Summer Activities:

The Annual "Little Picasso" Art program at Rosewood will begin its third week on Monday, July 24th.

Cynthia Hamilton, artist in San Miguel, well known for her encaustic art, also the owner and founder of the "Once Upon My Pillow", an amazing eco-friendly business, had joined a roster of notable artists who spent a day with the Picasso budding artists at Rosewood.

Hamilton 's mission is to upcycle material that has been thrown away to give it a new life with art. She founded "Once Upon My Pillow" using silk, cotton and cashmere material from a vintage wardrobe, turning customer's old shirts or tweed jackets into lovely elegant cushions.

Last week she worked with our children in the Picasso program to upcycle ugly Havana cigar boxes into adorable cherished adornment.

The Children's Art Foundation has had the support of many great artists. In the past, we had Toller Cranston, Merry Calderoni, Juan Ezcurdia and recently Richard Trumbull, Ezshwan Wilding, who inspired the children with their unique art techniques.

Children from Shanghai, Paris, London, New York, San Francisco, Berkeley, and Mexico have had a great time and left with the fond experience of San Miguel.

Our Upcoming workshop schedule is below:

Week 3: July 24-28
Week 4: July 31-Aug 4
Week 5: Aug 7-11
(Mon-Friday from 10AM-1PM)
• Fees: $165 US/ week per child (All materials and snack included )
